Followers of my exploits will know that I'm an enormous fan of charitable endeavour, so much so I support 29 worthy causes across the world. Over the last 11 years I've had the honour to be the Patron of the truly amazing children's charity - When You Wish Upon a Star, which is about to celebrate it's 21st Birthday!!

Never being one to miss an opportunity to help raise much needed funds, I suggested to the charity's founder - Barbara White OBE, that we hold a Gala Concert in Nottingham (the charity's home), which would give talented performers from across the Midlands the chance to join me on stage for a spectacular night of entertainment. The event itself will take place at the wonderful Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Sunday 18th March, 2012, which sounds like a long way off...but trust me it isn't! Time is of the essence as the hunt for the best acts to join the show gets underway!

So if you're based in the Midlands and have an amazing talent - be it as a budding singer, pop group, choir, magician, dance group, orchestra or barber quartet (to name but a few of the acts we're interested in seeing), we'd love to hear from you! Auditions are taking place at the Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 10th September, in order to dazzle myself and the rest of the Judges you need to complete an application form which is available from the charity's website: www.whenyouwishuponastar.org.uk

5live Manchester Madness!

Regular listeners to Tony Livesey's late night show on BBC Radio 5live, will know that I joined a small but illustrious panel of experts on Thursday night live from Manchester Airport, as we celebrated the start of the holiday exodus to sunnier climbs!

The show was full of fun and laughter as we met some of the weary travellers, their friends, relatives and of course taxi drivers! We even managed to catch a brief chat with Carl Lewis' former manager, who'd flown in with a couple of very tall athletic guys to participate in a Trafford running event. I have to say, the athletes left us feeling ever so slightly out of shape!!

Throughout the show we stood huddled over what looked like a car battery, connected umbilically to one another by headphones, and thus restricted in movement unless we all shuffled along the concourse together. Tony Livesey was a superb host, and I for one thoroughly enjoyed chatting with my fellow panelists, Rosie and Bob!

A big thank you to the Manchester Airport Team, especially Russell, for making us all feel so welcome, and of course for keeping the coffee coming! Much appreciated by me in particular as I'd been on my feet for 20 hours by the time we'd finished the show...and before you all start moaning at me that I'm looking for sympathy I'm not, I just want to emphasise my thanks...honest!

Sardines to Hungary

Call me old fashioned people, but I am a bit of a traditionalist and therefore enjoy being treated like a human when I travel. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect to be lavished in first class style everywhere I go, but I do expect a little civility and decency when I'm on the move.

I recently had the great misfortune of having to travel with a relatively new central European airline, and must say it's not an experience that I shall be repeating again in a hurry. Why, I hear you ask! Well, let's start with the departure gate experience. At both ends of the journey it was nothing short of shambolic, staff unaware of even the simplest of procedures, and totally lacking in any people skills (as is now the norm in the service industry...alas), still if you don't pay a lot, they don't pay a lot...ergo...effluent tends to be the end result! After the usual stampede to board from buses, which we had stood on for 25 minutes awaiting the arrival of the incoming aircraft, people bundled over one another to get the best seats, even those poor unfortunate fools who'd been mad enough to part with extra cash to board ahead of the horde, found themselves having to take pot luck. I myself generally head for the back steps in such situations, people like sheep seem to be conditioned to boarding through the front door, perhaps its a desire to check the whites of the pilots eyes...trust me sometimes it's best not to get that close to check!

Any old how, having managed to find a spot I attempted to squeeze my 6 foot frame into a seat with a pitch of just 28", I kid you not!! Whilst the aircraft was brand new and for a change looked very clean, having only been delivered about 3 weeks earlier, they clearly went to a sardine factory for cabin layout design!! Next to me the customary goliath nervous of flying didn't make things any easier, and then there was the Ogre like creature directly in front of me, who despite the fact that the seats didn't recline, found their build was such that the back of the seat buckled under the pressure of keeping said occupant in the UPRIGHT direction!! Deep joy...

The fun really started when the crew (in both directions) made announcements...which in neither of the languages spoken were audible...that said, the safety demonstration was very visual and the bored looks on the faces of the crew were reminiscent of the old border controls in the Soviet Union, whereby the border guard/immigration official would engage in a staring competition to out wit you and put you on edge. I can honestly say that I wasn't in any way filled with confidence, in truth I felt nervous for those less familiar with flying, who if God forbid anything happened would be clueless as to what was required of them.

Now I could bore you with the delights in flight, but I probably don't need to state the obvious...it was of course lack lustre and left me feeling shameful that a once great indsutry has come to this...Having said all of that, there are some terrific carriers out there both low cost and full service whom I enjoy flying with...

The moral of the story, stick with what you know best I guess...or perhaps more importantly you get what you pay for!!

As shocking as it is, April has already arrived and that's a quarter of the year confined to the history book of life!! Of course we continue to see the madness of globalised interference by others, as well as a great deal of unrest...one can't help but wonder what is really behind the revolution taking place throughout the world at the moment. Still not for me to comment, there's enough conspiracy theories out there to feed on without me adding to them!! Let's hope that we might encounter one day of peace...hope springs eternal!

The year's challenges continue apace here at Jeremy Spake HQ...training for the climb up Mount Fansipan in Vietnam in aid of the children's charity 'When You Wish Upon a Star', continues unrelentingly so much so that my treadmill has put in for a transfer to the home of a couch potato...

My latest book is also nearing completion. No doubt the marketing guru's here will let you know more about that once it's printed and ready for official launch later in the year...it's been an exciting project and I can only hope that folk enjoy reading my latest tomb.

On the cinema front, there's been a few releases of late, I managed to grab a few hours last week to see The Eagle, now not being a fan of the Roman Empire I was a reluctant observer. However, I was pleasantly surprised, and despite some mixed reviews of Channing Tatum's performance, I actually enjoyed the film by and large thanks to the part played by Jamie Bell, who in my humble opinion out shone the Lead to deliver a convincing performance of Anglo Saxon Briton... Next on the agenda is Killing Bono, I'm a huge U2 fan, so hope I'll not be disappointed... only time will tell later this week.

Mount Fansipan Fundraising goes live

As regular visitors to my whispers know, I'm climbing up Mount Fansipan in Vietnam in October in aid of the wonderful Children's charity - When You Wish Upon A Star, who make the dreams of seriously ill children come true. The climb will take up to 5 days to complete, and I will then be spending a few days in a local orphanage helping with a project to make life a little bit easier for Vietnamese children.

Training for the challenge is well underway, but I need your help to raise much needed funds for the charity to continue it's fantastic work. Challenge 2011 Steps Up a Gear

Folks, this week sees the next important step to me securing my HGV licence as part of my Charity Challenge 2011. As you know, the plan is for me to drive an articulated lorry across Europe to Belarus to deliver aid to the victims of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station accident, which believe it or not happened 25 years ago!

If you're a road user in and around South Essex and East London I would avoid the area all next week as I attempt to get a grip with the challenges of driving lorries...I pity the poor instructor if I'm honest. I must of course remember to keep a civil tongue in my head when I'm cut up by other road users, or abused by the instructor for making a hash of things...

Needless to say, the team here at Jeremyspake.com will be keeping you up to date with progress and the odd shot of me attempting to pass my test!

Mount Fansipan Training Underway

Despite my best endeavours I cannot resist the pressure from the Team to get into some serious training for the climb up Mount Fansipan in Vietnam. I've got 6 months to develop the stamina required to reach the peak of the mountain in aid of the children's charity 'When You Wish Upon a Star', who make the dreams of seriously ill children come true.

This week has seen the delivery of a state of the art treadmill to the office, to ensure that at lunchtimes, and those quiet moments when I'm not writing my latest book or developing new television programmes, I can hop on board under the watchful eye of the Team and get in some much needed exercise. Running for 10 minutes at 12 mph, with a gradient of 10% is proving more challenging than it sounds...TRUST ME!!

Sir Norman's Tribute

Tacho!!

Apologies to those of you who thought you'd be reading about the wonders of Mexican food, or for that matter all things Hispanic...alas no...I'm referring to the wonders of the Tachograph, possibly the blight of every commercial vehicle driver around the world...and at the moment the details of these little devils are spinning in my head thanks to the challenge that was set me by the wonderful people at Chernobyl Children's Project (UK).

The challenge of trying to remember what rules apply to which scenarios is not for the feint hearted! Blimey, there's GB Domestic, EU, AETR and then if that wasn't enough to send you to sleep there's the National Rules of other countries to be bothered with!

As you'd expect, like everything in life, there's the exceptions to the rule...Having embarked on the quest to acquire my HGV Licence, I now have a better appreciation for the amount of rules and regulations that the folk at the wheel have to remember...

It will be interesting to see whether I pass the theory...it can't be that bad...can it?

Black Swan...

Being an enormous fan of classical Russian ballet, I guess I had to be really, I have been eagerly awaiting the release of Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.

I must confess I was a little disappointed, not because the acting was poor, far from it! In general the film is brilliantly executed and puts a very modern twist on Tchaikovsky's stunning ballet. Indeed the original Tchaikovsky score is cleverly used throughout the film to maximise suspense and manage emotions, and Natalie Portman without doubt gives a truly superb performance throughout.

So why was I disappointed? The film contains occasional moments of pure quattro formage, yes loads of cheese, which are totally unnecessary and do nothing to enhance the film in any way whatsoever.

Despite one or two misgivings I would recommend people try and catch Black Swan, especially if you are a fan of Tchaikovsky. My personal rating for this film is 6 out of 10, the deletion of a few scenes could push this film to an 8.

Highway Code...

It's been 24 years since I last had to read the Highway Code...blimey despite driving an average of 35,000 miles a year, I'd forgotten, or should I say taken for granted, my knowledge of all things Highway related!

As you know folks, I've embarked on the challenge of learning to drive an HGV as part of my Charity Challenge 2011 commitment, and as you might expect the Highway Code plays an integral role in getting my HGV Licence...I'm having fun getting the grey cells back into cerebral action (about time too some would argue).

I may have been better off sticking to writing my new book!

Challenge 2011 Underway

Throughout 2011 I've agreed to undertake a host of challenges in support of my favourite charities. The first of the many challenges requires me to learn to drive an articulated lorry in just two weeks, and then drive much needed aid across Europe to Belarus in support of my newest charity - Chernobyl Children's Project UK.

This doesn't sound like much of a challenge really, I hear you say! You'd be wrong if you thought that...firstly, learning to drive an articulated lorry requires me to pass three separate tests, not to mention a medical! Once I've successfully passed these hurdles, I then need to source the lorry and the aid to fill it with. All of this has to be completed in record time as I am due to be in Belarus by the beginning of April, and still don't have my provisional licence from the DVLA etc etc...as you can see there is more to this challenge than meets the eye.

Believe it or not it's 25 years since the tragic accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and I'm eager that we do everything we can to help the thousands of children still suffering as a result of the fallout. Belarus was by far the worst affected area in Europe, and the Chernobyl Children's Project has been working tirelessly since 1995 to provide real tangible support to the victims. I'm hoping that readers of Jeremy's Whispers will be generous and make donations to help us improve the situation for so many children throughout Belarus, and I will of course be keeping you updated on progress, and ways in which you can lend your support.

A must see in 2011 - The Kings Speech

For those of you who are regular visitors to my blog, you'll know I have a real passion for film and love nothing more than visiting a cinema to watch a great movie. Well, yesterday I wasn't to be disappointed when I managed to grab a few hours out of my busy schedule to see Colin Firth in 'The Kings Speech'. Much to my surprise, and for the first time in ages, the cinema was completely full (an airline mans delight to see so many bums on seats!!!). Once the largely older audience had settled down (this was a matinee showing after all), and stopped rustling their bloody sweet wrappers the film started.

This British masterpiece tells the story of King George VI, and his battle to overcome a stammer with the assistance of an Australian voice coach Lionel Logue (brilliantly played by Geoffrey Rush). From the very outset it is clear that the casting is nothing short of sublime! Without exception, each member of the cast delivers an outstanding performance, which blends together superbly to tell a little known story about the British Monarchy.

The film is full of touching moments, many of which occur between Colin Firth (Bertie - King George VI), and Helena Bonham Carter (Queen Elizabeth), who have an on-screen magnetism which is nothing short of stunning. Whilst Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Cater clearly excel, Geoffrey Rush stole the limelight for me personally. His characters complexity was delivered in a simple and fun way, which had you praying for his success and hoping for the Kings approval.

A combination of light and dark moments, inter twinned with a fair amount of humour make this a great film. The audience I sat with appeared to be feeling the highs and lows with the characters, which for me is the sign of brilliant acting!

If like me, you are a fan of great cinematography, superb dialogue, outstanding acting and historical reality this is without doubt one of the highlights of the 2011 cinema calendar, so make the effort to go and see it in your local cinema!

Nursing a cold...

If like me you've had a cold/flu over the past couple of weeks you have my sympathy. Pain the backside being under the weather. For me it's normally a head cold, and this time around has been no exception...it feels like a killer whale has beached itself in my head, and now I am going to need Captain Haddock to pull the damn thing out!! That said, I'm not one of those guys that sits claiming that he is dying of man flu, quite the opposite in fact, I generally get on with things which annoys those who think I should be making more of a fuss about feeling physically drained.

In fact now that the New Year has arrived, I've gotten back into my daily exercise and healthy living regime with an hour spent in the gym yesterday and a couple of hours on my cycle this morning...made all the more challenging by a runny nose!! Apologies probably too much information I know.

Any old how, here's to 2011, and I hope that as the months unfold you'll all be enjoying a better and more productive year than last.

It's not too late to join me and the fabulous people from the children's charity When You Wish Upon a Star on Sunday 16th January, from 09.00 at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. There's no excuse not to be there to help raise much needed funds for this wonderful charity who help seriously ill children realise their dreams!

A great night was had by all in the world of JeremySpake.com. I know that a few party goers will be feeling a little bit like my friend the polar bear here, a great deal the worse for wear this morning...not yours truly though! The secret to getting drunk but not suffering for me personally is to stick to one type of drink! Not easy when you're out on the town with a bunch of lushes!!! Still I achieved success, irritatingly I know! I'm told that a full fat cola will cure your hangovers...personally I always found being presented with a bowl of lard soup quickly suppressed the throbbing pains in my head as I quickly tried to come up with an excuse not to have to eat the soup!!

I hope that 2011 proves to be a great year for you!

I'd like to wish you all a very prosperous 2011. I can only hope that the year will be better for everyone, and that just a little bit of peace might descend upon the world in some small way. Idealistic I know, but I remain ever the optimist!

Catching up with Old Friends

It's always nice to catch up with old friends who you've not seen for a while. It's even better to discover that things are find and dandy with them as well.

Yesterday I managed to catch up with BBC Essex presenters Steve Scruton and Sadie Nine when I paid the BBC Essex studios in Chelmsford a visit. In between the laughter we managed to have a good catch up, and special thanks to Steve for his usual warm hospitality during his afternoon show.

Chuckle at the Chaos

Please forgive me as I let out the odd cruel chuckle...but the past few days of travel chaos have reminded me of the many happy years spent trying to placate would be travellers in such situations.

When people bemoan a lack of information, what more information could they need other than the 'Airport is closed', or 'Rail Services are severely disrupted'. Is it just me, or does the selfishness of people know no bounds in todays modern society. After all, it wasn't so very long ago that you'd be happy spending hours on end travelling a few miles up the road by horse and cart!!

I ask you, do we all need to try an simplify things a bit? Let's spare a thought for the people who work in the various sectors of the transport industry who are being verbally abused because of the weather. If any one of them could control the weather...well...they would hardly be sitting behind a check-in desk or standing on a railway platform would they! They too are human beings with feelings, needs, expectations and aspirations so cut them some slack, and try relaxing!

The Sun's Military Heroes

Last night I managed to catch all of the Sun's Military Heroes Awards, and must confess to the odd tear in the eye! A fantastic tribute to those who've served, are serving and perhaps most importantly of all those who are helping children who've lost a parent to conflict. I was deeply touched by all of the stories of selflessness, and will be endeavouring throughout 2011 to help raise much needed funds for those affected by conflict.

New Book Underway!

After a great deal of pontification on my part, and not a lot of action, I've finally started putting fingers to keyboard to craft my next literary (or not as some might argue) outpouring. The contents of the book shall remain a mystery for now...simply because I've only just started and it may well take a twist and a turn that even I did not expect...

Details will of course be posted here as soon as I have something more to tell, but suffice it to say at the moment I'm being drowned out by the clacking of the keyboard...

X Factor Finale

It hardly seems possible that the 2010 X Factor frenzy is nearing it's climax! Having followed some of the highs and lows of the series, and by lows I do mean Wagner (nice chap but like so many of us is deluded about his singing abilities), it was good to see the public getting it right last night. The final 3 acts deserve to be where they are, Rebecca is a star, One Direction have the teenager appeal, but for me Matt shows all the signs of being a star. His duet with Rhianna last night was superb, and I wish him well tonight.

Don't forget to cast your votes, and if you're not a supporter apologies for clogging up space in the Whispers, but it will all be over tonight!

X Factor Final

Ok I succumbed to another year of X-Factor, shame on me I know! This year has been one of the better years in my humble opinion. Although I must say it took far too long to expel poor old Wagner!!! The final this year looks like being a two horse race, that said, I might be proved wrong. My money is on either Rebecca or Matt winning. Personally, I'd like to see Matt win, for no other reason than he's from Halstead not far from the Jeremyspake.com team and I. It's nice to support a local guy especially one with obvious vocal talent.

If like me, you were a huge fan of Sir Norman Wisdom, you'll be pleased to hear that his agent Johnny Mans (who also happens to be my agent), is planning a host of tribute events in support of some of Sir Norman's favourite charities. Happy Birthday Your Majesty

I'd like to say a huge thank you to the folks of Her Majesty's Househould Cavalry for making my second visit to their barracks in Knightsbridge such a pleasure. A day (Saturday 12th June, 2010), spent observing the tradition of 'Trooping the Colour', is, without doubt to be highly recommended. An amazing spectacle, made all the more interesting by the other guests around me to include the High Commissioners of so many Commonwealth countries and the Prime Minister. One African High Commissioner managed to find herself sitting in the Canadian High Commissioners seat, until such time as a fellow official pointed out she should be sitting next to Tonga!

When watching the pomp and ceremony of such events it is all too easy to forget that many of the men and women on parade will at some point come face to face with an enemy or two in their task of protecting the likes of you and me! I can't help but think we need to be doing more to support these and many other elements of our society to ensure our long term prosperity.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2010 Trooping the Colour, a delight I'm sure for everyone lucky enough to be watching.

My apologies folks for the long silence...it's been a busy few weeks, in fact it's been a busy month since I last had an opportunity to put fingers to keyboard and offer some utterings here!

The team and I have been plotting and planning a few new events, the details of which be posted here in due course, but for the moment I'd like to encourage as many of you living in Herfortfordshire and west Essex to support the Mayor of Broxbourne's Charity evening on Saturday 13th March, 2010, which is being held in aid of Breast Cancer. Hope we're all surviving?

As I write, I hope that each and everyone of you is surviving the Siberian conditions that are gripping much of Europe and the Eastern Seaboard of North America. Friends in southern Portugal have reported unprecedented levels of snow, and my team in Central Siberia are experiencing temperatures averaging -58 degrees centigrade. Now that's definitely cold. For those of you in the UK who have struggled to cope with the onslaught of driving snow, take comfort from the fact that the temperature by and large hasn't dropped below -18! Small comfort I know, but something nevertheless.

Today marks my sister Sveta's birthday, so I'd like to wish here many Happy Returns for today, and look forward to her buying lunch in the not too distant future... For everyone else who may be celebrating a birthday today, I hope that you have a most enjoyable day.

A very Happy New Year to you all! As we usher 2010 in, I'm looking forward to a busy and hopefully fun packed year. There's plenty to tell you about right now, but the folks in my team have asked me to keep tight lipped about much of what we have planned for the start of the new decade.

One thing we have announced, is my planned charity drive from London to Ulaan Baatar in Mongolia. Details of this fantastic and slightly daunting challenge will be made available over the coming weeks, and you'll be able to help sponsor my efforts to raise much needed funds for children's charities along the route.

Here's to 2010 being a great year for one and all, and please remember that in Britain there's a General Election coming, don't waste your vote MAKE IT COUNT!

Lapland here I come

I'm very excited as tomorrow sees me heading, once again, for the Arctic Circle with my favourite charity to give 100 or more seriously ill children the experience of a lifetime! A fun packed day lay ahead of all of us, with sleigh rides and snow ball fights listed amongst the activities available. The day will culminate in all the children meeting Father Christmas and his helpers, so that they can have a chance to tell the great man himself what might be on their Christmas lists...I'm still writing mine at the moment!!

Each year When You Wish Upon a Star runs a series of trips to Lapland to bring some magic into the lives of the children, who are suffering from life threatening illnesses. Celebrating the Chaika

I've long had a love affair with this wonderous car, so today I've decided I'm going to start my search for a 1950's Soviet Chaika car. Why? Well, it is quite simply one of the finest cars ever produced, and the original mark 1 Gaz Chaika's were the cars of the politburo, with their lush interiors including heavy curtains. They don't make cars like this anymore!

My search is on, so I shall be spending the next few days chatting with some friends around Russia to try and source an early production model...when I find one, I'll be sure to let you all know, in the meantime I hope you all have a good day on the roads...

Ok I know it's still November, and if like me you suffer from Crimbo fatigue as soon as the shops start forcing it upon us in August, you're probably wondering why on earth I'm mentioning Christmas ahead of the 23rd December!! Well, it's very simple, my dear friends at the children's charity 'When You Wish Upon a Star', are holding their annual Santa Runs to help raise much needed funds to make the dreams of seriously ill children come true.

There are a host of venues where you can participate, and whilst it is called a Santa Run, it is perfectly acceptable to stroll, crawl or for that matter piggy back off someone a little bit fitter. If you'd like to help us by taking part, or by making a donation to the charity, hit on the link below to find out more.

World Cup Depression...

Not being a big fan of football, I wouldn't ordinarily be bothered who was playing in the World Cup 2010. However, I was very depressed earlier this week when the Russian Federation was knocked out...unlike the Irish my favourite team bowed out gracefully...albeit leaving me sad and almost inconsolable!

There is however, a glimmer of hope on the horizon, whilst not normally a fickle individual I have decided that I will support an underdog for the 2010 competition. Who I hear you ask might I be backing? Well...put simply I shall be supporting the boys from Pyongyang...yes! The North Korean National Team shall be getting my support just as soon as I am able to lay my hands on one of their shirts for the 2010 games...They may only last round one, but I shall nevertheless remain devoted to their challenge.

Those of you who know me well, will know that I am a huge fan of the Soviet Space programme, especially when so many firsts were achieved by people like Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov. Well, when I was looking back at moments in history earlier today...sad I know, but it's something I do from time to time, I was reminded of the Venera programme. What on earth was all that about I hear you ask...and more importantly, do I need to know about any of this old Soviet stuff?? In truth you probably don't. However, I think its always good to store some of this nonsense in your head for the odd pub quiz.

16th November, 1965 : The Soviet Union launches the Venera 3 space probe from Baikonur, Kazakhstan. The mission was to land on the surface of the planet Venus. The mission was successful when Venera 3 crash-landed on Venus on 1st March 1966 becoming the first spacecraft to land on another planet's surface.

Harry Brown...

Well folks, as predicted I made it to the cinema last night and saw Daniel Barber's debut feature length film Harry Brown. This is the much talked about movie starring Michael Caine, that quite frankly portrays a very real image of modern British society. The film from the very beginning highlights the plight of inner city communities, and whilst not the fastest film in the world, the pace is sufficient to keep people glued.

The basic plot, if you don't know it already, sees Caine, an ex Royal Marine commando, turning in to an old aged vigilante following the death of his wife and the murder of his closest friend Len. Without spoiling it for you, I will say that the violence portrayed is not gratuitous but balanced with moments of grief and despair. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, although I must confess felt sad when I left the cinema at just how real it felt.

There is a danger that some younger people watching the film will view it as wicked, where in fact it is anything but cool. There is, as with every Caine film, a one liner to bring about a smile, and Caine does what Caine does best. I'd rate this film a 4* plus.

Wild winds...

Blimey, about an hour ago I decided to hop on my bike for my daily ride (part of my healthy living regime), only to find myself being blown back 50 yards for every 10 I managed to cover...I'm not recuperating with a nice cup of green & ginger tea, and wouldn't recommend anyone try to mimic me until the weather improves a bit.

It's wild and windy out there today folks, so if you are going to venture out, make sure that you wrap up well and try wherever possible to have a tail wind. If you were meant to be out in the garden picking up the fallen leaves, forget it, make the most of the excuse and enjoy a relaxing day indoors doing something less strenuous!

This evening I'm going to brave the outside world again and popping to the cinema to see the new Michael Cain film 'Harry Brown', and will no doubt offer a short critique on the film tomorrow. I'll also try to catch Amelia, but my eyelids after all this early morning cycling may not hold out for the two films...sad I know...I am getting old!!

Is tonight the night?

Sting said it all earlier this week when he launched an attack on the X-Factor for failing to live up to its own billing of being a SINGING competition. Good on him...I've always been a bit of a fan of Sting ever since his days as the front man of The Police (and yes I do realise they are back together again).

After his professional outburst, will we see the show return to its roots tonight...will we see real singing talent given the chance to shine through...will Jedward actually sing or will be be subjected to another torturous performance where the boys leap around the stage with their rather unique brand of dance?

Lets hope that when the public vote, they vote on singing ability and nothing else.

Tomorrow marks the 11th hour or the 11th Day of the 11th Month, Armistice Day. I, like to many around the world will be bowing my head in silence at 11am as a mark of respect for those who have, and continue, to lay down their lives in order that we might freely express our opinions. Tomorrow is a day of reflection when, in my very humble opinion, the world should seek peace and forgiveness. Lets hope that each and every one of you will do something to benefit someone else tomorrow, making your compassion worthy of the great sacrifice paid by the few.

Why am I not surprised by the X Factor!

Why am I not surprised that Jedward are still in the X Factor...I'm an occasional viewer of the show when time permits, and am not in slightest bit surprised that the twins from Dublin are still in the competition despite being completely out of tune.

Now whilst I'm no expert, I was always under the impression that the X Factor was a talent competition for SINGERS!! Maybe, in his own inimitable style Mr Cowel has used the boys to his advantage to ensure that his three over 25's remain strong in the run up to the final...hmmm. For those who are fans of the boys apologies, but please do remember it's a competition requiring the contestants to be able to sing, take Leona Lewis! Lets hope things improve next week, should I find the time to catch it...

Poppy Appeal

Today see's the annual pilgrimage of the Royal British Legion to London's Royal Albert Hall, where the audience and the nation will join Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in paying their respects to those who have laid down their lives in pursuit of Peace.

Earlier in the week I was listening to BBC London when Vanessa Feltz posed a question surrounding the wearing of poppies. A number of callers were, in my opinion, under the misguided impression that wearing a poppy was an act of condoning war! It could not in fact, again in my opinion, be further from the truth. I consider the wearing of a poppy our annual reminder that so many have given up so much in order that we might be free to live our lives the way we choose. I can only hope that as many of you as possible have donated to this years appeal, and that you are wearing your poppies with pride!

The Berlin Wall - 20 Years on!

It hardly seems like 20 years have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall. I for one can remember watching the events unfold on as the people of Berlin flocked to the Brandenburg Gate to help toppel the wall that had devided the people of Germany for 40 years.

What has the world learnt about unity and peace since then...frankly speaking not a lot it would seem! I can only hope that as we mark this momentous occasion, we spare a thought for all of those around the world who are not enjoying the harmony of unity.

Let's hope that 2010 will bring renewed efforts on the part of all world leaders to create stability for all.

They say that silence is golden, but in my case it has been swine flu and work load related, so apologies to all of you out there who make regular visits to Jeremy's Whispers. The swine flu thing is not the most pleasant of conditions to have in fairness, so to those of you out there suffering, and yes I know it's gone quiet from a media perspective, but you are still out there, keep wrapped up and don't give in to the pain....I would say that the stupid jokes about pigs and the like will eventually stop!!

Now that I'm back in circulation, I've had a busy week launching some new campaigns on behalf of homeless children in Russia and the republics of the former Soviet Union. I'll be posting more details about these campaigns both here and on the website over the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for ways in which you can help me and the team to make the lives of homeless kids better!

Give cyclists a bit of room!!

For those not in the know, I've become a bit of a cycling fan since I started my health kick back in January. More or less everyday I make my way out onto the roads, and run the gauntlet with the idiots behind the wheel.

Why is it that most drivers seem hell bent on clipping cyclists as they pass them?? One idiot this morning at 6am, yes I know it's a bit sad being out at 6am on a Sunday morning, but it is without doubt the best time of the day to clear your head and avoid (or so I thought), the average smuck on the roads, decided he would get close enough to check the tyre pressures on my bike! What a complete and utter TW@*! If ever I should see this cycloptic fool, he clearly could only see out of one eye, I shall be sure to educate him on early morning road etiquette!

Living History Show a Marvel

Many of you will know my interest in 20th Century History, and in particular the history of the Soviet Union both politically and socially. The Great Patriotic War (WWII), is perhaps the defining moment of the 20th Century, especially as far as the Commonwealth of Independent States is concerned, which is perhaps why I was so delighted to encounter a group of living history enthusiasts at a recent show in Kent.

The 2nd Guards is a group of UK Based enthusiasts, who at weekends relive the live of the Red Army Soldier during WWII. This is not in any way the glorification of war, far from it! It is in fact a way that todays generation can touch and feel the enormous sacrifice made by ordinary men and women around the world during this period of global terror. I for one was captivated by not only the 2nd Guards, but the German, British, American, Dutch and other nations living history groups on display at the War & Peace show at Hop Farm. The event is an annual offering, and below are just a few shots taken at this incredible insight into the 1940's.

Birthday Treat...St. Basil's Cathedral Delights

Folks, your's truly celebrated a birthday a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday I was presented with this rather stunning fruit cake of St. Basil's Cathedral! It is truly a masterpiece of baking!

The cake was skillfully created by a good friend of mine, Rajinder, who clearly has a talent for all things cake, never mind Jane Asher!. In fact so good is she, that all of her friends have been encouraging her to go into the cake making business full time, and I'm pleased to say that after an awful lot of nagging, she has. U2 Wow Croke Park

There's no doubt! The boys are once again on top form, and managed to wow the 80,000+ fans who had assembled at Dublin's Croke Park to pay homage to the worlds biggest bad U2! Having been a fan since 1979, I've attended a fair few U2 concerts, but never before have I been so monumentally entertained. The 360 degree tour is without doubt their finest offering to date.

The show opened with 4 tracks from the new album to include Magnificent, which summed up the night. During more than 2 hours of non-stop music the band traversed their career with songs like Beautiful Day, The Unforgettable Fire, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Pride and With or Without You.

The Set, which Bono described as their space ship, is incredible and definitely adds value to already excellent nights entertainment. There are a few nice surprises, which I wont mention, just in case you're planning to see the boys in action. Suffice it to say, you will not be disappointed in any way!

Keep up the good work guys, and I now eagerly await the next album and tour!

Less than a Week to Croke Park!

You may or may not be aware that I'm an enormous U2 fan. Some might call be a grouppie, but I'm not sure I've got the bug that badly...but then again... Saturday 25th July, I shall be joining the mongal hordes all paying homage to their favourite bad in the boys home town of Dublin! Yes folks, I'll be enjoying the extravaganza of U2's latest 360 degree tour, and frankly can't wait to see the band performing live again, which is where their music is always at its best.

I can only hope that there will be the odd golden oldie thrown into the mix, especially the odd tune from the Joshua Tree, which is my favourite of their albums...

D-Day Remembered

It is hard to believe that 65 years has passed since the brave men and women of the allied forces started the second front against Hitler and his Nazi dictatorship. I for one will be paying homage to those who laid down their lives in order that we might be free of the Third Reich. My fellow Soviet Ansestors paid the highest price of any nation, with more than 27,000,000 people dying during the Great Patriotic War.

If you do nothing else this weekend, please spare a couple of minutes of quiet contemplation on Sunday morning as a mark of respect for those who cannot be on the beaches of Normandy to mark this important date. I will be places flowers on a Soviet War Memorial, and will endeavour in my own small way to say thanks...

Today is Polling Day

M25 Torture

I don't know about you, but if you spend as much time as I do on the motorway systems of europe you'll probably share my irritation at the M25 around London. This evil god for saken NCP Car Park just gotten worse...just as the summer approaches and the caravan club of Great Britain warms up (more's the pity! I'm not a fan I must say), they introduce a stack of new road works in various locations, reducing speed limits to zero and causing more accidents than ever before!

It is bad enough on London's orbital delight with 3 lanes, now that they are about to increase to 4 lanes heaven knows what will happen...my misery with this road will no doubt continue for the 54 weeks they have penciled for completion plus the 18 weeks of additional over run on the project....hmm...I'll stop my rant now...

Another Busy Week

Folks it's been another one of those frantic weeks with too much to do and not a lot of time in which to do it. My abortive attempts to get to the cinema to see Tom Hanks latest offering Angels & Demons was thrawted by workload. I'm told by some that it's better than the DeVinci Code, and by others that it's a heap of pooh! Still I'm determined to find out for myself, so will make the effort this weekend. I did finally manage to grab a copy of Kate Winslets 'The Reader' on DVD on Monday, and thoroughly enjoyed the screenplay of the book, for those of you who dislike continual sex scenes it might not be for you, but if you can look beyond this it's a compelling story of human nature. My personal rating 8 out of 10, very watchable.

Now...Britain's Got Talent....hmm...not sure about this one, I'd be interested to hear your opinions on the show, and perhaps more importantly the hot favourites...Personally, I'd like to see Simon, Peers and Amanda putting on a variety show that the audience can push their Red Crosses too...hmm...some how I don't think that's going to happen do you?

The Apprentice

Sorry folks, if you're not an Apprentice fan I can only apologise! Personally, I love the show despite the lack lustre wannabes...last night I watched another feckless attempt at trying to impress Sir Alan, and wondered what I would do if I was in his shoes...I might have fired them all by now to be honest.

It would be fair to say that Ben arrogance caught up with him last night, but some how I can't help but feel that it should have been Debra on the chopping block last night...This is only my personal opinion, and I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who would disagree with me!

Next week...hmm...shopping channels...for fear of upsetting too many shopaholics I'll refrain from giving any pearls of wisdom until this time next week...

Big Thanks to the Household Cavalry

Yesterday I had the honour to be a guest at Knightsbridge Barracks, home of Her Majesty's Household Cavalry Divisions. The men and women of both the Lifeguards and Blues & Royals made my first visit to their central London home a real delight. Despite the heavens opening a couple of times, the troops and their magnificent horses put on a show for a handful of guests, whilst rehearsing for their next formal parades later this month.

I hope that the 2009 ceremonial season proves to be an enormous success for them all, and I'd like to say a big thank you to Captain Mark Avison, the Household Cavalry Riding Master for facilitating my visit.

Eurovision Fever

Tomorrow sees Moscow hosting the Eurovision for the first time! Whilst I'm a huge fan of all things Moscovy, I'm not sure I'll be heading down town to watch the wonders of this years competition. Let's face it, Serbia will give Russia 10 points, Cyprus and Greece will bestow 10 points upon one another...need I say more! For those that are fans...ENJOY, for those that aren't in the words of the cult kids show Why Dont You...switch off the television and go and do something less boring instead of sitting at home watching tv, turn it off it's no good...

Never mind my week being busy! Gordon's has been a tad complicated...nothing new there I hear you say! However, the pressure has been intense this week, he seems surrounded by scandal not least created by his dear colleague Hazel Blears. Given the general mood of the media world, I thought this weeks poll could reflect the atmosphere of whitehall. So...this weeks poll is simple...should Gordon call a General Election now? Busy Week

My apologies folks...it's been a very busy week in the world of Jezza, which is why I've not been able to get carried away here with updates. I must confess I over did the exercise regime yesterday with a marathon 2 hour badminton session, weights in the gym and finally a cycle ride! The body knows it's been busy...today I'm going to be taking it easy with a spot of gardening...

Let the Gurkha's Stay!

I'm the man with a mission today, I've decided it's high time to join the growing number of voices putting pressure on our so called Government to allow the Nepalese Gurkhas have the right to remain in the UK. These guys generation after generation have served King, Queen and Country tirelessly! If ever there was a group who truly deserved our thanks it's these boys... They more than most have earned their right to be in the UK...come on folks lets get behind this campaign and put pressure on Mr Brown and his band of well...

May Day

A very happy May Day to one and all! I hope that the early morning sunshine across Europe is a sign of things to come weather wise. Traditionally, May Day is of course the one day in the year when workers unite to mark all manner of achievements...

However, the world continues to be gripped by its very own credit crunch, not too mention the growing problem of swine flu and of course cheating politicians, who are insistent that recovery is on the horizon...it feels a bit like trying to find the end of a rainbow! Each and every one of us is going to have to find some innner strength for that all important PMA (positive mental attitude), if we are to survive the continuing doom of mismanagement the world over!

One piece of good news yesterday, was the fact that the British Forces have completed their mission to Iraq and can finally head home, lets hope that they're not about to be redeployed to Afghanistan! Last month also saw the official end to the Russian Governments military action in Chechnya! There's just a slim chance people may have some brief peace!

Today will also see groups of Morris Dancers celebrating in their time honoured fashion with a bit of baton waving and may pole dancing...some cheer to behold...go out and celebrate with them!

Victory Day - День Победы

Many people across the former Soviet Union will once again be celebrating Victory Day on the 9th of May. День Победы, as it is known in Russia, marks the official ending of the Great Patriotic War (WW2), in Europe.

I for one will be joining some of the brave Veterans, who will be remembering their fallen comrades. As ever, the traditional Red Square Parade will take place, and for anyone remotely interested in this period of modern history, a visit to Moscow for the parade is a must!

More than 27 Million citizens of the Soviet Union lost their lives during this period, which is perhaps why I feel passionate about spending some time with those who survived. In some small way I'd like to think that they appreciate the acknowledgement of their endeavours on behalf of us all.

D-Day 65 Years On

Believe it or not 6th June, 2009 marks the 65th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy by the allies. I for one think it's important to not only remember those who gave their lives, but also help the dwindling number of veterans who played their part to rid the world of Hitler and his cronies! It's also important that we help those who have participated in the countless conflicts since WW2, which is why I'd like as many of you as possible to visit the British Legion website dedicated to D-Day 65 years on. U2 Back on Tour

If like me you're a huge fan of U2, you'll be heartened to know that they're back on the road this year with their 360 Degree Tour! I for one shall be in Dublin enjoying their latest musical offerings...I have just discovered an old song of theirs called 'Smile', which has been popped on a new album entitled 'Medium, Rare & Remastered' I'm loving this song another U2 Ballad of outstanding quality...but then again that's just my opinion.

St. George's Day Poll

I'm not sure about you folks, but I for one think England needs to make more of a fuss of St. George's Day...After all, Scotland, Ireland & Wales all do a terrific job of making sure their patron saints are not forgotten, so why is that England feels it inappropriate? If you think that England should be more proactive on the 23rd April, each year, show us by taking part in this week's poll! Not many people realise that St. George is also the official emblem of the City of Moscow...now I wonder why I might have started this poll???

Round Britain Aerial Challenge

Today will be a busy one for me and the Team, as we'll be putting the plans together for our Round Britain Air Challenge, which will be held in September. The Tour will see me and 3 brave souls traversing the UK in 48 hours in a Yak 18...well...I guess it had to be something with Russian heritage! We plan to visit up to 30 airfields during the two day marathon, raising funds for some of my 2009 charities as we go. More info will be posted at the website once the final route has been agreed.

Anzac Day

For those not in the know, today is ANZAC day, which is why we've made sure we're flying both the Australian and New Zealand flags over our HQ...I'm a great believer in marking the tremendous sacrifice people have paid over the years to create our semi-fragile freedom! Many of you will have heard of Gallipoli in Turkey, and for those of you who haven't now might be a good time to watch the Mel Gibson film of the same name...it should explain things a little better than I can here...
